Jacqueline du Pré OBE (January 1945 – October 1987) was an English cellist who achieved enduring mainstream popularity unusual for a classical performer. Most famous for her iconic recording of Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor, her career was cut short by multiple sclerosis, which forced her to stop performing at the age of 28.
